A complete lack of common sense.

"The R5 train's front car started to smoke on the tracks at the station. Conductors told everyone to move to the rear cars. Some passengers got off before the train left the station, others moved into the other three cars"

FOR GOD'S SAKE. If ANY OF THE CARS ON THE TRAIN ARE ON FIRE, GET OFF THE TRAIN, NO MATTER WHAT THE CONDUCTOR SAYS.

These people apparently trust authority figures much more than I do.

I was telling Mr. iwantpurple about this and I said maybe people stayed on is because they knew they wouldn't be able to get on the next train because of overcrowding due to the strike.

His response? "It happens all the time."

It turns out that it's pretty common for fires to start on or near the trains. Apparently it has something to do with the transformers? I don't really know why. But it seems that the normal routine is for them to drop the car that's on fire and keep the rest of the train moving.

So this is obviously crazy in and of itself, but I guess I can see how people would have made the decision to stay on. I'd rather they push for more funding for trains that don't regularly catch on fire!!!
